If I could fly…
Woody Woodpecker
Actually a Black-collared Barbet
Maybe he thought he could fly?
Maybe he leaned out too far and fell out of the nest?
His is hopping around here and cannot reach the nest again which his dad hollowed out in a tree. But he has concerned parents and they bring food to eat. I don’t want to interfere because nature knows. He knows me by now but I won’t try to pick him up, his mother may not like it.
When he grows up he will look like this

This morning when I got up and I went outside and he was gone, no trace of him. I think he must have flown up to the nest. This part of the garden is completely safe so I cannot think that anything bad happened to him. If he is safe I am happy

I`ve had that problem many times and is heart breaking if you try to help and then they die. It seems a lot more humane to let nature take it`s course. The biggest problem was finding an owl in Tokia Forest and taking it home, because many years after I found that they can actually climb trees. It eat so many packets of chicken livers a day that it had to go to the bird sanctuary. It was released into the wild the next year but it was sad to think that it never knew its family.

I am glad I did not interfere for this morning he was gone. And I watched the parents, it seems they are relaxed and go the nest, so he probably got his wings and went back. Luckily the nest is one the one side where there are no dogs or other enemies. Only the rabbit and he could not be bothered

Sadly not but I think maybe birds who leave the nest too soon could have something wrong with them. I was so sad and wonder what would have happened if I returned him to the nest
