Is there a ghost in the house!
Why O! Why in this day and age are there zillions of people so gullible that they believe in psychics and ghosts?
Is it due to Conmen? One who gains the trust, or “confidence”, of his victims (often called marks) in order to manipulate, steal from, or otherwise predate upon them.
Or is it just plain stupidity?
Or maybe both?
Interesting article about James Randi in the New York Times. Now as you probably know Randi has a million dollar challenge to anybody who can prove supernatural… and up to now nobody has been able to claim the prize!!! A million dollars, I could do with a million dollars!
And the likes of John Edwards did not even go there: Surprise! surprise!
But here is a link to the Randi article (and of course Uri Geller who has been calles a psychopath also figures). http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/09/magazine/the-unbelievable-skepticism-of-the-amazing-randi.html?_r=0
Love the last paragraph
In July last year, Randi came closer than ever to the end. He was hospitalized with aneurysms in his legs and needed surgery. Before the procedure began, the surgeon showed Peña scans of Randi’s circulatory system. “Very challenging, a very difficult situation,” the surgeon told him. “But he lived a good life.” The operation was supposed to take two hours, but it stretched to six and a half.
When Randi began to come to, heavily dosed with painkillers, he looked about him in confusion. There were nurses speaking in hushed voices. He began hallucinating. He was convinced that he was behind the curtain before a show and that the whispering he could hear was the audience coming in. The theater was full; he had to get onstage. He tried to look at his watch, but he found he didn’t have it on. He began to panic. When the hallucinations became intensely visual, Peña brought a pen and paper to the bedside. It could prove an important exercise in skeptical inquiry to record what Randi saw as he emerged from a state so close to death, one in which so many people sincerely believed they had glimpsed the other side. Randi scribbled away; his observations, Peña thought, might eventually make a great essay. Later, when the opiates and the anaesthetic wore off, Randi looked at the notes he had written.
They were indecipherable.
And then of course an interesting experiment. You can see ghosts if you really want to! Here is how!

Maybe both would seem to me the most obvious answer
Nov 11, 2014 @ 06:35:50
Of course people are very suggestible and that is exactly why you can hypnotize them.
Nov 10, 2014 @ 16:54:15
Sommige mense se spoke is in hulle koppe
Nov 11, 2014 @ 06:36:13
Exactly!
Nov 10, 2014 @ 19:13:47
As jy bereid is om te glo in drie gode wat eintlik net een is (do the math!) dan is spoke nie te vergesog nie.
Nov 11, 2014 @ 06:38:03
Nov 11, 2014 @ 08:42:15
Ja, maar die Groot By(bel)gelowe maak ons vatbaar vir die kleiner (soms nie the klein) bygelowe …
Nov 11, 2014 @ 12:41:21
Dit klink vir my heel logies.
Nov 11, 2014 @ 06:39:34
Soos n argetipe.

To each his own, Mel.
I am a medium, however, I can’t prove what I hear and do. I also wouldn’t place myself in an environment of skeptics – I’m not out to prove anything either.!
Suffice to say we are all different. I’ve come across some psychics and mediums I’d rather not have met. On the other hand, I’ve met some truly wonderful individuals within these walks of life.
C’est la vie 😉
Nov 11, 2014 @ 06:40:58
I hope I did not offend you? But if you do no harm and it brings peace to another being I will not argue.

Nov 11, 2014 @ 08:57:14
No offense taken, Mel.
I’ve had my fair share of those who do harm. In fact I’ve, in the past (I no longer do readings per se) have had to reassure some they do not need to pay someone (a psychic) hundreds of dollars to remove a curse. Yes, there are some very gullible and naive individuals who are taken in by those after a quick buck.
I guess that’s a problem in almost any path of life – there are some good and some not so good to be found.
Once again, Mel; we are all entitled to believe as we will. I honour your opinion, and understand it totally. 😉
Nov 11, 2014 @ 12:42:01
Thanks Carolyn, it is all personal experience

Nov 11, 2014 @ 02:19:44
I wouldn’t know a ghost if I saw one. 🙂
Nov 11, 2014 @ 06:41:36
I suppose if you were schizophrenic you would know
😀
Nov 11, 2014 @ 05:11:44
I think they watch too many movies and trust others too much, and the mind is a funny thing. It will make you see and believe what you want to. 😀
Nov 11, 2014 @ 06:43:06
Exactly! But this goes so far back even before TV. Do you remember the story (true ) of the black girl who had a dream and caused a famine?
Nov 11, 2014 @ 14:15:31
Nope. Don’t know that story. Are you going to tell me about it or do I have to google? 😆
Nov 11, 2014 @ 15:32:01
I think it was a Xhosa girl in the Transkei who dreamed and now I am not exactly sure how the story goes, that the forefathers instructed her to tell the elders they have to destroy all their crops – which they did! Reason I do not know. Anyway then a severe drought broke out and they all or most of them starved to death.

LOL! Found it on Wikipidea : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nongqawuse. Wonder what she was smoking that day?

Nov 11, 2014 @ 17:38:54
LOL! Here were thinking of the same thing. Just gave you the link as well. hahahahaha!
Nov 11, 2014 @ 20:07:50
Great minds? But you see how incorrect my version was? I heard this story so long ago, must have been as a child that the details became fuzzy.
😀
Nov 11, 2014 @ 20:12:15
hahahah! Seems like that. I think I liked your version better and I don’t blame you for getting it wrong. I would have too. 😆
I think we must make up our own stories from now on. These are too gruesome. Those poor cattle.
Nov 11, 2014 @ 20:16:12
I think some kids even learned it at school many years ago.
Nov 11, 2014 @ 20:26:59
hahahah! No, those you call liars. We must make up true stories but with happy endings. 😆
Nov 11, 2014 @ 06:38:22
Soos Carolyn Page hierbo opmerk: “…some psychics and mediums I’d rather not have met.” Wat sou sy hier bedoel? En dan is Sonel so reg as sy noem dat movies you laat spoke sien! Maw – watse movies kyk ons?
Verseker is die mind a funny ding.
Nov 11, 2014 @ 20:14:32
Charletan !
Nov 11, 2014 @ 08:11:32
I have never seen a ghost as such but have seen some inexplicable things. The eyes can be very deceiving because we only see about 10% and the rest is filled in by the brain which goes on previous encounters.
Nov 11, 2014 @ 12:40:18
You definitely see and hear with your brain and that is why it is so unreliable!
Nov 11, 2014 @ 09:49:38
Die Spoke wat ons jaag
Nov 11, 2014 @ 12:42:32
Nee dis die duiwel wat ons jaag
😀
Nov 11, 2014 @ 10:00:48
Elusive and Inconclusive 😉
Nov 11, 2014 @ 12:44:39
Nov 11, 2014 @ 14:59:08
I used to grind my teeth whenever Edwards was on the telly, especially as my lot would be glued – you may pick up we see things just a tad differently over some things at The Ark’s spot.
Randl also gave Rene Salm the thumbs up over Salm’s claim that Nazareth never existed at the time of Jesus.
Naturally, both Randl and Salm have been roundly slated.
Nov 11, 2014 @ 16:45:26
Yes and don’t get me started. Of course now we know, for those who want to of course, exactly how Edwards aka a charleton and his cronies do it!
But of course people choose what to believe…
And reason is not going to cahnge that
*sad face*
