Typical celeb hypocrisy. Others in the same mould are Di Caprio and Gore who have large “carbon footprints” what with private jets and huge mansions and telling us how we should live.
Oor my dooie liggam sal ek n Hollywood fliek gaan kyk of n video uitneem. Terloops el het A Man called Ovie nogals baie geniet = Sweeds.
Ugh. I loathe fur. Even fake fur as it just reinforces the idea. My mother bought some sealskin boots, years later she said she wouldn’t have bought them with hindsight. She had a lovely coat with a fox fur collar. I chopped it off.
Good for you! Unfortunately I have one winter jacket that I bought in Amsterdam last year (the coat my daughter gave me was simply too heavy and warm) with some fake fur finish on the cape but it is so fake you can spot it a mile off. I cannot figure out how to take it off,
So voorspelbaar!
When I holidayed in Denmark almost two years ago, I bought a beautiful hat that cost quite a lot of money. My man K paid for it without blinking an eye (lucky me). It wasn’t until some days later I realised it had ‘fox’ fur around the edge (I truly, in my ignorance, thought it was ‘fake’ fur). My grief felt tangible. Not because part of it was made with fox fur, but because I didn’t want to be seen as someone who condoned the killing of an animal to make me a hat.
It is the most wonderful colour, the two tone of the fox tail; I adore it; but will never again be able to wear it due to its original construction.
I love all animals, as you, dear Mel, will know. It is hard to describe my feelings. On the one hand I feel dismayed that a fox was killed, and yet to have this stunning reminder of a creature in all its incredible glory there for me to see and touch and feel so close to, satisfies a part of me that honours the magnificence of a little being.
I also don’t want to see other animals killed to satisfy the fashion conscious, or so called sport orientated. But I always come back to the fact that I have a part of something I love.
I cannot throw it away; that seems sacrilegious. I cannot have it on show; that would be dishonouring. I will just admire it and will, ironically, be reminded of man’s abusiveness toward those of a weaker frame.
You know I think this has happened to a lot of us and then leaves us with some desperation. I remember as a child my grandmother wore something that looked like a Fox around her neckband I never realized it probably was a fox fur. We are now so much ,ore aware of these things but she has died very long ago so I cannot discuss it with her. I also once had a jacket with real fur, Never knew what to do with it but like you could not wear it. It is knowledge that gives us power. Real ignorance can be forgiven ? xxx

Is everyone sure it isn’t a fake one?
Unfortunately soya fur isn’t very cuddly. 🙂

“Real ignorance can be forgiven ?”
I believe so, Mel; indeed I do… 🙂

As long as we seek not to remain ignorant…
