Weekly Photo Challege – Silhouette

The weighty issue

Only because I have,  albeit limited,  knowledge professionally about addiction

The first step is to recognize that the person have an addiction – drugs, alcohol, nicotine, FOOD – all the same And getting there maybe cruel.

Friends and relatives may try to get through to you  that you are doing an unhealthy thing but usually they do not make much of an impression.

Then one day somebody writes/ says something that really hurts or you see a photo of yourself.

Maybe it is easier to stop smoking because here there are very few places you can smoke in public and you already feel like an outcast.  It works to have a negative label as a smoker.

Our neighbor is Cape Town is obese and so we did the talk thing, you have a small child which will grow up with a mother… We never knew what the husband’s attitude was. So she went for screening for a by-pass and lost the weight prior to surgery that she was supposed to. Now a year afterwards not much has changed, she does not do exercise, will take a lift to go down one floor, still fills the kitchen with jars of sweets and cookies, eats less but chooses unhealthy foods. Lost 25 Kg which you cannot even notice still has to buy 2 plane tickets if she wants to travel……

So yes we are back to motivation. And admitting to an addiction and going for treatment, but not for weight You can take a horse to the water but you cannot make it float.

I am not saying there is no Photoshop involved but….

A Touchy subject?

On CNN.

WKBT anchor Jennifer Livingston, from La Crosse, Wisonsin, responded to a letter she received chiding her for not being a ‘suitable example for this community’s young people’

The letter from unknown read:-

Hi Jennifer,

It’s unusual that I see your morning show, but I did so for a very short time today. I was surprised indeed to witness that your physical condition hasn’t improved for many years.

Surely you don’t consider yourself a suitable example for this community’s young people, girls in particular.

Obesity is one of the worst choices a person can make and one of the most dangerous habits to maintain.

I leave you this note hoping that you’ll reconsider your responsibility as a local public personality to present and promote a healthy lifestyle.

So do you agree? I think the planet is being weighted down due to unhealthy eating habits.

Maybe subconsciously  we all do discriminate one way or the other against morbidly obese people?

According to  Wiki a bmi above 25 may indicate the person is overweight; a person may have a BMI below 18.5 due to disease; a number above 30 suggests the person is obese (over 40, morbidly obese).
