This is murder

With reference to my previous (re)blog of the girl who died from cancer after following a quack cure I have come across this story here

It is about time that these quacks are removed from society. For good!

A controversial herbal “healer” and naturopath is under fire after the death of a teen girl he was treating for leukemia using a strict vegan diet and herbal supplements.

The Canadian Broadcasting Company reported on the death of the teen girl, who was from one of Ontario, Canada’s aboriginal First Nation tribes. Another teen girl from the same community is still in the care of Brian Clement, who Florida officials have ordered to stop practicing medicine and calling himself a doctor.

Clement operates the Hippocrates Institute, a spa-cum-clinic in Orlando, Florida where patients with serious diseases have been treated with what the state of Florida is calling “unproven and possibly dangerous therapies.”

Clement urges his patients to forego conventional medicine like chemotherapy in favor of veganism, supplements, juices and a raw diet.

Makayla Sault was 11 years old last July when she left chemotherapy in Hamilton, Ontario, to attend the Hippocrates Institute, which is licensed in Florida as a massage parlor. The girl died in January. The Ontario coroner’s office is investigating.

In the meantime, however, Clement has been ordered to cease and desist in calling himself a doctor — he is licensed only as a nutritionist, not a medical doctor — and to stop providing medical care to patients. The state issued their orders, along with a $3,738 fine, to Clement on Feb. 10. He was given 30 days to respond. He is facing possible felony charges of practicing medicine without a license.

I stand with Charlie Hebdo, as we all must, to defend the art of satire, which has always been a force for liberty and against tyranny, dishonesty and stupidity,” said Rushdie, who was the subject of a fatwa, or religious edict, calling for his assassination in the 1980s.

Are psychopaths responsible for their deeds?

I have blogged this previously but it is in the news again.

‘I would have done it again’ Anders Breivik

Devoid of shame or an ounce of remorse about massacring defenceless teenagers, Breivik appears tormented by his failure to go to university.

Then I read a review on the book The Psychopath Test where Hare ( I think he is an academic) and I quote from the Amazon review explains the science of psychopathology: a part of the brain called the amygdala doesn’t function in psychopaths as it does in other human beings. When a regular person experiences extreme violence or carnage (or even photographs of such scenes), his amygdala becomes overstimulated, provoking an extreme anxiety response in the central nervous system. When a psychopath experiences the same stimuli, his amygdala does not respond: no anxiety response occurs. This explains the psychopath’s lack of empathy.

This is a theory of course but does this mean psychopaths are not responsible for their actions?

Which implies of course that these monsters and perpetrators should be excused.

What a sad and cruel world

I do believe although he may well be responsible for his actions he should be sent to an asylum so that he will be locked up for the remainder of his ‘natural’ life. Furthermore I question the theory postulated here because you will have to test thousands and thousands  of psychopaths before you can come tho this conclusion. Even then it still would not be a fact.

This should make a good movie?

A sensational new book has caused a storm among historians by claiming that Jack the Ripper was, in fact, a woman

Former solicitor John Morris, 62, has named Welsh-born Lizzie Williams as the Whitechapel monster – and claims she killed her victims because she could not have children, ripping out the wombs of three in an ‘unhinged state’.

Lizzie was the wife of royal physician Sir John Williams, himself seen as a prime suspect by many other crime experts.

Mr Morris, from Birmingham, also cites evidence – which has not proved popular among Ripper experts – including the fact that none of the five murdered prostitutes was sexually assaulted; and the personal items of one, Annie Chapman, were laid out at her feet ‘in a feminine manner’.
